A quick overview of five U.S. visa options for foreign entrepreneurs: the E-2, EB-5, E-1, L-1, and the O-1/EB-1 visas for individuals of extraordinary ability.
Visa Options for Foreign Entrepreneurs
If you’re a foreign entrepreneur with an American dream who loves America and its people, values, and culture, here are several U.S. visa options to consider:
The E-2 and EB-5 Investor Visas
1. The E-2 visa lets you establish and invest in a U.S. company that creates jobs, including one for you.
Solid investments of at least $100,000 are seeing very high approval rates.
2. The EB-5 visa allows you to obtain a green card by making a qualifying capital investment of at least $800,000 in a new commercial enterprise—normally an approved EB-5 regional center—that creates at least 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers.
The E-1 and L-1 Visas
3. The E-1 visa is for entrepreneurs who carry on “substantial trade” in products or services between the U.S. and their home country.
4. The L-1 visa allows executives, managers, and specialized knowledge employees of a large or medium-sized company abroad to transfer to a U.S. company with a qualifying relationship.
The O-1 and EB-1 Visas
5. The O-1 visa and EB-1 visa are for individuals of extraordinary ability in business, the arts, sciences, or athletics.
