Why Canadians Are Moving to the United States

New research from the University of Calgary found that the most commonly reported reason that Canadians moved to the United States was employment opportunities—followed closely by health care and lower taxes.

And many of the Canadians leaving are in their prime working years: two-thirds are between 20 and 44, while 70% have university degrees.

Why Consider Florida

Well, if you’re a Canadian who ready to make your move, consider the free state of Florida.

In 2025, Florida tied for the fastest real GDP growth of any state in the country, and more Americans moved here than to any other state.

You won’t wait years for an MRI, surgery, or a doctor who will actually see you. In fact, our urgent care services are outstanding.

And with no state income tax in Florida, you keep a lot more of what you earn.

Which Visa Should You Apply For?

Which visa should you apply for?

There are many options, but most of my clients apply for an E-2 visa, which allows you to live and work in the U.S. long-term in return for making a “substantial investment”—typically at least $100,000—in a U.S. startup, franchise or acquired business that you own, direct and develop by, among other things, hiring Americans.

Your spouse and unmarried children get derivative E-2 visas, your spouse can work anywhere he or she wishes, and your kids can go to school here.
